McFADDEN'S SWAMP, CORVALLIS, BENTON CO., OREGON September 29, 1949 1:30pm to 3:30pm Weather - cloudy Water still low, but covers most of main part of swamp north of the road. Much Carex still out of water on the south side. Pied-billed Grebe - Watched one make a submarine dive at the far south end of the swamp. White-fronted Goose - Flushed one from the main part of the swamp down by the island. The bird went about 600 feet and lit again, where I got a good look at it. Was an immature. Mallard - About 25. Pintail - About 15. Green-winged Teal - 10. Wood Duck - one. Virginia Rail - Flushed one, which flew! Wilson's Snipe - flushed about 5. Crows Oregon Chickadee Robin - Heard a small flock. Cedar Waxing - flock flew over. Yellow-throat Red-wings - flock of about 75 came in at 3:30. Goldfinch Oregon Towhee Savannah Sparrow - along the fence row going in. White-crowned Sparrow - by the shed.
