Pheasants - 10-15 Gallinules - pair Coots - 4 Killdeer Black Terns over rice-paddy areas. Mourning Doves - many in area (5-800). Nest on debris in crotch of willow on west side of creek, 4 feet above the water. 2 clean whitish eggs in a shallow saucer. Nest made of dry grass stems. Full willow canopy over it. Pacific Horned Owl flushed from large old willow along creek, chased by redwings. Western Kingbirds common along fence lines, where there was no brush, whatsoever. Ash-throated Flycatchers - pairs here and there along creeks Black Phoebe - pair at Eugene Bridge. Ruddy Horned Larks everywhere. Singing. Barn Swallows - few Cliff Swallows - colonies under every culvert and bridge over water in this area. California Mockingbird - pair near cam site California Shrike - about 12 pairs seen. English Sparrows seen long ways from habitation, in willow, etc. along creek. Western Meadowlarks common, feeding young, although I could not locate any nests. Calif. Bicolor Redwings: Many nesting: #1 contained 4 eggs. Nest on NW side of old willow on Rock Creek at 10 feet. #2 nest at 12 feet on west side of dead poplar (Lombardy). #3 nest 18' over water on S side of large willow on horizontal limb. 4 eggs. Nest cup 2 1/2" deep. Female on nest at 330 p.m. #4 in willow coppice crotch at 11' above water. nest cup 3 1/2" deep. #5 at 14' on side side of willow just 11 feet from #4. #6 on horizontal limb of willow just 2' over water in open on east side. Some young redwings are already flying about the area. Brewer Blackbirds California Purple Finches in pairs and small flocks feeding on the weed seeds. Sacramento Brown Towhees in willow thicket along Littlejohn Creek #1a on Draz Bros. Ranch, on Rock C. Nest in 3 1/2' growth of Rumex occidentalis ingran AT 2 2". Cup 3 1/2" deep, containing 4 eggs., Of wild oats + dry grass
