Mountain Quail - came across a pair that had 13 cute little chicks. About 1 1/2" long. I almost caught one chick. They sounded just like a brood of chicks. The female stayed within 6 feet of me, crest erected, and gave several types of scolding and alarm notes all the time. When I left, she gave two plaintive notes, and had ansers from the chicks, which had been hiding silently till then.
