Trip with herpetology class for collecting herpetological specimens. Not supposed to be a bird trip. Weather - Clear. Temp 70. Sandhill Crane - Will have to give Ayyan Roest credit for this one. He spotted them. IDXXXXXthMMXXK About 100 of them circling considerable distance up in the air currents. Gave cooing sound like a lot of pigeons. Did not flap their wings. Could see long necks and legs. Ends of wings darker colored. Also seen by Bob Storm. They stayed within our view for several minutes. They constantly circled, but were headed in a nor- therly direction. Storm thinks they were little-browns. Could be either. Turkey Vulture - One over the fir timber. Sooty Grouse - Heard hooting all the time. Ruffed Grouse - Flushed one from under a doug fir whose branches reached the ground. Flicker - one heard calling. BARNXXXXIIOWXX Bushtit - Heard calls. Robin - in grassey meadowl Cassin's Vireo - Heard singing. My first this year. Lutescent Warbler - Heard singing. Black-throated Gray Warbler - My first this year.
