Temp 70, clear King-necked Pheasant Rufous Hummingbird - around Acer macrophyllum Crows - only 3 in field to south Horned Lark - one singing in field at base of hill. Lutescent Warbler - singing in brush north side of hill Audubon Warbler - calling in oak Meadowlark -lots of them singing in fields. Oregon Towhee- in rosa McFADDEN'S SWAMP, CORVALLIS, OREGON April 10, 1949 5:15pm to 7:30pm Weather - temp 60. Clear. Water Level - 1/4 Walked up between Muddy Creek and main pond to junction main swamp outlet and then around east side of main pond. Blue Heron - Saw 5 of them at one time. Canada Goose - Must have been 2,000 of them today flying in small groups low over the swamp northward and some landing in field to east. Snow Goose - In field on east side of main pond. Could see this one black wing tips and all from hillside above. Mallard - Around 20 of them. Pintail - About 50 almost all males. Green-winged Teal - Around 100 of them Shoveller - About 6 males. Wood Duck - Flushed a pair about 4 times. Might have been same pair part of time but feel that there are at least 2 pairs. Sparrow Hawk - one flying low over the swamp. Ring-necked Pheasant - one cock in sedge marsh at northwest corner of main pond. Rail - Call Ker-eek, ker-eek, ker-eek, ker-eek decending about 1/2 an octave, rather high and harsh. Don't remember which rail call this is. Heard it in ash, sedge, spirea thickets along Muddy Cr. Later heard it in seige along east edge of main pond. Coot - Saw only 2. Wilson's Snipe - In north field. Didn't go out to AAXE count them; so flushed only a few. Great-r Yellow-legs - At least 25 which moved from here to there. Mourning Dove - Heard one coo-ing across the creek. Tree Swallow - heard some. Oregon Chickadee - pair Seattle Wren - singing. Tule Wrens - abo t h singing in sedge marsh NW corner of main pond. Yellow-throat - Heard in 5 different locations. Red-wings - no signs of nesting yet. Flocked up around 6:30. Song Sparrow D.B. Marshall OREGON STATE COLLEGE CAMPUS, CORVALLIS, ORE.
