McFadden's Swamp, Benton Co., Oregon - T.H. McAllister March 7, 1949. 16:45 to 1730. Mild, high Cumulo-stratus, light south wind. Covered south end. Blue-heron - 2 Canada Geese - 4,000, in rye field on S.E. corner. Able to pick out only a few intermediate sized geese this winter; all the large form. Snow Goose - 1 2nd year bird with the Canadas. Mallard - all paired and scattered throughout the swamp, including the flooded ash woods. Pintail - only a few pair Green-winged Teal - 1 pair Western Red-tail - 1 in an ash tree Ring-necked Pheasant - 2 cocks Coot - 25 Wilsons Snipe - 1 Western Sandpiper - flock of 8 at edge of pond in field. Killdeer - 5 Violet-green Swallows - 4 flew over Oregon Chickadee Tule Wren - singing Red-winged Blackbirds Brewer's Blackbirds - flocks came in at evening Juncos Song Sparrow
