MCFADDEN'S SWAMP, BENTON CO., CORVALLIS, ORE Feb. 19, 1949 10:30 am to 11:00 am Weather - Broken clouds. Temp 55 Water level - One foot of water over dike road. Water level 24" Area covered - Only what could be seen from road. Water too deep to go off road. Pied-billed Grebe - Watched one work across road and on down the main pond to the north. Mallard - two pair. Cooper's Hawk - One flew over the main pond and lit in the ash along Muddy Cr. Sparrow Hawk - One perched on the pole along the RR tracks. Coot - about 75 out on the grass. Audubon Warbler - flock working over the ash. Horned Lark - Several in the field east of the swamp Red-wing - one male Song Sparrow - one. Oregon State College, Corvallis Feb 20, 49 Crossbill - Saw two flocks today, one 23 birds and one 14. They appear to be feeding on the fruit from the white pines along Jefferson St. north of Central Hall. Saw flock of 14 also Feb 17.
