Evening Grosbeak - Three flying over. Junco, Oregon - 80 total. Usually in flocks of about 10. White-crowned Sparrow - Total of 5 seen, all immatures. One which was not seen sang several times. Song Sparrow - 55 total seen in two's and three's all day. We saw one song sparrow which was very peculiarly colored, the bird being a yellow-brown. Hooded Merganser - One male and two females or immatures in the river close to shore as we drove up to eat lunch on the bank. Cooper's Hawk - Albert spotted one near the dump. Red-tail Hawk - Two seen near Ramsey Lake. Ring-necked Pheasant - Nine between Ramsey Lake and the dump. Killdeer - Flock of 23 flying over Ramsey. Later saw seven more in the marsh between Oregon shipyard and Ramsey. Wilson's Snipe - 10 between the shipyard and Ramsey. Actually along the road which XXXX runs along the northside of the XXX yard. Least Sandpiper - At the above location. Two individuals which I studied for some time and managed to get close. Dowitcher - Three at the above location, but not actually with the least sandpipers. Showed the white rump and long bill. Killdeers and the least sandpipers for size comparison. Glaucous-winged Gull - There were 2,000 to 2,500 gulls at the dump. The adults were in the ratio of about one herring gull to three glaucous-winged Gulls. Herring Gull - XXXXX See above. Ring-billed Gull - One very tame adult at the dump. I looked and looked for something besides pink feet at the dump. This was the only exception, which I could find. Short-billed Gull - Five seen along the river and about 50 more in the slough between the incinerator and the dump. Belted Kingfisher - one rattled for us between Smith Lake and the dump. Red-shafted Flicker - Two. Gairdner Woodpecker - Four, mostly around the dump.
