Eared Grebe - pair Western Grebe - they float, sleeping, with head laid back on bake, toward rear. One light gray downy young 1/5 grown, at least. Pied-billed Grebe - White Pelicans Cormorants Blue Heron Bittern flying over marsh area. Mallard Vulture Redtail Hawk Marsh Hawk female or immature. Osprey, flying over rocky point area near Modoc Point. Sparrow Hawk Coot Killdeer Wilson Snipe - flushed 4 of them. California Gulls - Forester's Tern - small tern, with deep swallow-tail Casbian Tern - saw 3 of them. Much larger than Foresters and with a notched tail. Mourning Dove Pacific Nighthawks - 5 of them feeding. Vaux Swift. Flicker Olive-sided Flycatcher Little Flycatcher Wood Pewee Violet green Swallow Bank Swallows Barn Swallows California Jay - 4 in brush on hillsides above the lake. Magpies - several seen along the highway and edge of the lake. Bushtits Pygmy Nuthatch Creeper in quite open yellow pine forest. Robin Yellow-throat W. Bluebirds Meadowlark English Sparrows Yellow-headed Blackbirds feeding in sage. Also many in one marsh area - they tend to nest in colonies, as do the Black terns.
