Fir snag in cut-over forest area, but not over 100 yards from a small creek, where it may be nesting. Mallards - 27 in one feeding group Kingfishers at lagoon - 5 Little Flycatcher - nest found previously was tipped over by cattle. 1 egg yet. Violet-green Swallow Roughwing Swallows along river above the lake area. Stellar Jay - 5 or 6 Barn Swallow Crows Ravens Chestnut-backed Chickadee in fir forest area. Red-breasted Nuthatch Robin Russet-backed Thrush Golden-crowned Kinglet Hermit Warbler Western Tanager Common Goldfinches Oregon Towhees Juncos Song Sparrow July 23, 1948 Summit London to Yoncalla Pass (Willamette-Umpqua) 1/230-1/200 Vulture flew over Rufous Hummingbird in cut-over snag area. Little Flycatcher Chestnut-backed Chickadees House Wrens - in log pile and dirt area - very pale colored, but alert notes typical. Golden-crowned Kinglets July 23, 1948, In Scott Valley near old school on E side of road. (2 mi. E of bridge). Elev. 500' 1/15-1/35 Sparrow Hawk Mountain Quail - pale back - covey of 15 2 1/2"'ers. Band-tailed Pigeons in cottonwoods along creek. Mourning Doves on ground by water Flickers on ground by water and on snags Little Flycatcher Stellar Jays common Robin on ground by water. Cedar Waxwing MacGillivray Warblers in chaparral bursh areas. Chat in bushes Intescent Warblers Black headed Grosbeaks common Lazuli Bunting singing from wire line. House Finch Common Goldfinch Oregon Towhee - young birds everywhere Oregon Juncos Chipping Sparrows Song Sparrows.
