May 1, 1948, Fern Ridge Reservoir, 1230-1600, cool to warm, calm, and windy, clear. White Pelicans - 1st 2 of the year Farallow Cormorants - just a couple seen. Blue Heron Mallards - a few, and found nest of 1 pair on NE slope of dike, just 4' below the road atop the dike. Surrounded by tall grasses and weeds. 12-eggs. Took pic. Lesser Scaups - 2 small rafts of them Vultures everywhere Marsh Hawks Osprey - saw a couple Sparrow Hawk - just a couple Bobwhites Valley Quail Pheasants Coot Killdeer Spotted Sandpiper Wilson Snipe Greater Yellowlegs Mourning Doves 2 Short-eared Owls at S. end Rufous Hummingbirds Flickers Lewis Woodpeckers Red-breasted Sapsucker Gairdner's Woodpecker MacGillivray's Warbler English Sparrow W. Meadowlarks Yellow-headed Blackbirds - at least 3 Males and 2 females seen. Reewings here and there Brewer Blackbirds - 1 M with 1 white tail feather on left side.
