April 10, 1948 09:00 to 12:00 Weather: Cloudy Observers: McAllister, Merl Payne, Marshall Blue Heron Canada Goose - Probably about [illegible] 400 is all we saw. White-fronted Goose - Flushed three off the far south pond. Mallard - In rather small numbers, probably about 150. Baldpate - two flew over. Pintail - around 200. Green-winged Teal - Mostly in the field to the north. In large numbers. Shoveller - around 200. Wood Duck - Flushed one or two from the ponds between Muddy Cr. and the swamp. Sasup - Tom spotted one in the main pond. Buffle-head - Two female in the main pond. Ruddy-Duck - Saw only [illegible] three, one a male. Turkey Vulture Sharp-shinned Hawk - One over Muddy Cr. Marsh Hawk - One male. Sparrow Hawk Ring-necked Pheasant - Heard one. Virginia Rail - Tom said he heard one several times in the sedge near the swamp outlet. Amer. Coot 75 Killdeer Wilson's Snipe - Flushed only one in the area, but didn't tramp over the field to the north. Greater Yellow-legs - At least four or five in the area. Long-billed Dowitcher - Flushed three from [illegible] near the ponds edge near the horse barn. Flicker Horned Lark - Singing in the field east of the south ponds. Violet-Green Swallow Tree Swallow 3 swallows were in one of the heaviest concentrations that I've seen anywhere. Cliff Swallow Western Crow. Oregon Chickadee Bushtit - In the ash and spirea at the south end. Seattle Wren Tule Wren Robin Varied Thrush - In the ash and brush along Muddy Cr. Amer Pipit - flying over Audubon's Warbler Lutescent Warbler - We didn't see this one, but we are sure of it from its song, a trill with the pitch rising and then lowering about a step.
