Bluebirds Brewer Blackbirds in field March 14, 1948 - Peoria, Linn Co: 1645 - 1715 Short-eared Owl - one flying over stubble field. Seemed to flap either 2 or 4 times, and them glide a very short distance. March 17, 1948, Pudding River, Woodburn, T Stms and RW 1430-1510 Mallards - a pair flushed from the river Wood Ducks - 2 pair in small pond near the river. Pheasants - crowed after blast on nearby farm. Flicker Violet-green Swallows - a few over the very river area. Tree Swallows - a couple seen Seattle Wrens - 2 in small clump of fence row brush, and stayed within 3' of me. Hermit Thrush - on snag sticking up from log jam in center of river (Seattle Wren there, also). Oregon Towhees - here and there Song Sparrows March 17, 1948, E of Gervais - 1520-1545 RW- Lesser Scaup - pair on small pond in hollow in grain field - diving now and then. Sparrow Hawks - several seen on wire lines and over grain fields. Killdeer - a couple Mourning Doves - several seen Flickers - feeding on the ground in the fields Coast Jay - a couple in river-bottom brush, near fir woods Long-tailed Jay - a pair in dense hawthorne and willow thicket W. Bluebirds - quite a few along the hiway Oregon Juncos - 100's seen. March 20, 1948 - Hoodoo Ski Area & Santiam Ski Lodge - Noon - 6 p.m. Snow - sleet - Wind W 10-35 - 30°F Gray Jays - Several around the lodge. Very tame - many scolding & call notes heard. Raven - one pair hanging around the hiway in high winds. Stellar Jay - saw just one - heard again at 8 a.m. the next morning. Mtn. Chickadees - 7 or 8 seen working clump of fir during a fall in the storm.
