McFADDEN'S SWAMP AT BRUCE STATION, BENTON COUNTY, OREGON February 10, 1948 14:00 to 17.00 Weather: Clear and cold California Heron - A couple flew out of the swamp. Canada Goose - About 3,000 in the field north of the main part of the swamp. Didn't notice any cacklers among them. Mallard - Only around 100 altogether. Baldpate - About five in the north field. American Pintail - as above. Green-winged Teal - About 2,000 in large flocks on the north field. Shoveller - Only about 25. Marsh Hawk Ring-necked Pheasant - 10 in one band in the field east of the swamp. American Coot - Probably about 75. Killdeer Wilson's Snipe - Scattered individuals here and there. North eastern Flicker Oregon Chickadee Seattle Wren Tule Wren Robin Bluebirds - two flocks of about 20 American Pipit - scattered individuals flying over. Shrike - As usual around the house. Audubon Warbler - Seen often on in the ashes. Red-wings Purple Finch - one flock Juncos Song Sparrows High water conditions were present. The north field had from one to three feet of water on it. The south pond was observed only from the road.
