Feb. 1 1941 - Evening Grosbeaks still around the campers - calling early in the a.m. 797a February 3, 1948 Corvallis - 12-mile Swamp, 1305-1325 ø/ S 7 Cool. Mallards - 40 Killdeer - 36 Meadowlark - 1 Pintails - 150 Flicker - 4 Eng. Sparrow - 5 Sharp-shinned Hawk - 1 Crow - 1 Brewer Blackbird - 1 Sparrow Hawk - 2 Robin - 16 Pheasants - 3 Audubon Warblers - 10 And Return: 1445-1505, Ovc/10ø W 15-25 Cold , RW- Mallards - 25 Pheasants - 6 Robin - 4 Pintails - 15 Killdeer - 5 W. Bluebirds - 46 Sharp-shinned Hawk - 1 ? ? Gull - 1 in field (short-bell)? Audubon Warbler - 1 Sparrow Hawks - 4 Flicker - 4 (2 feeding Brewer Blackbirds - 100 on poison oak berries) February 3, 1948 , 12-mile Swamp, Bruce Station - 1325-1445, ø/ to Ove/ Cold W 10-20 Much of water iced over Blue Heron - 1 flying over field Canada Geese -mixed subspecies - not over 700 in the area. Mallards - plenty- probably 3-400 seen Pintails - seemed to be more common than Mallards - 450-600. Shovellers - a few, some were full-plumaged males. Others young or females??? Baldpates - a full-plumaged pair seen. Green-winged Teal - perhaps 400 in the area, tho we didn't see them all today. Ruddy Duck - at least 5 were seen. None in full plumage Cooper Hawk Redtails - a pair circling over, and chasing each other. Marsh Hawk - just one female seen in among teal that it flushed. Killdeer - several flew over, calling Wilson Snipe - must have flushed at least a dozen along the east side. Flicker Tule Wren - a few scolding Robin Bluebirds common, none in full plumage yet. Pipits - a few flew over calling NW Shrike - Bluebirds flushed from feeding when it flew in. Audubon Warblers - a few scatte ed around here and there. Song Sparrows - heard them, and some were waling around on the ice.
