Western Bluebirds Gairdner's Woodpecker in a small willow along a fence row in farmland area Western Crow - a single one seen. Audubon Warblers in oaks and fence rows along the road Oregon Towhees Juncos common in small flocks Song Sparrows Mourning Doves Fir Ridge running S from Philomath (crossed south of Well's Cr.) Flicker calling Pileated Woodpecker - flying thru burned and logged area. Killdeer - 3 Meadowlarks - 4 Audubon Warblers - 10-15 Juncos - 25-35 January 6, 1948, 12-mile Swamp, 1555-1425, 8 Ovc R , calm, cold. Hi water and the day after a 3-weeks hunting season. Ruddy Duck - male and female Pheasants - 2 immatures. COOTS - 250-300 in the area, many in wet pastures, feeding Tule Tren - quite a few calling and scolding from the Carex and fence rows. Pipit - a single flew in and lit in a stubble field Golden-crowned Sparrows in fence rows Song Sparrows - several singing in the rain. January 6, 1948, Oak-Fir hills N of Greenberry Sta. 1440-1615, 3 Ovc R- cool and calm. Flickers calling and flying about Stellar Jay - one in small fir Oregon Chickadees in flock Varied Thrush - one in tall D. Fir in woods, with a hermit Thrush in the same tree Golden-crowned Kinglets and Ruby-crowned Kinglets in small flock with Chickadees Purple Finches in flock of 25-30 along gravel road. Santiam Hwy at upper Bridge - 935 a.m. 4 Mtn Quail + 1 Buffal Goose run over on the hwy this a.m. 1 Raven perched in snag over the river 2 mi. above bridge January 7, 1948. 9-930 a.m. 12-mile Swamp, Benton Co. DBM. Canada Goose - nine flew up from nearby field. Mallard - 1 female constituted the only duck seen. Virginia Rail - one was flushed from the grass along a fence. Coot - about 40 Wilson's Snipe - several were flushed from a flooded field.
