Redtail Hawk - 1 Killdeer - 25 Sparrow Hawk,- 2 NW Shrike - 1 on wire line Pheasants - 3 AND RETURN Canada Geese - 35 flew east to river Mallards - 1 pair Redtail Hawk - 1 immature Sparrow Hawk - 1 Pheasants - 15 Killdeer - 18 Short-eared Owl - one flew across the hiway near the airport - some primaries missing. Audubon Warbler - 3 English Sparrow - 15 Brewer Blackbird - 1 F with part albino wings Robins - 2 December 16, 1947, 12-mile Swamp, 1305-1445, 70 Ovc, 15 Ø RW- 50-55°F SSW - 2-5. Common Canada Geese - 50-75 present with Lesser Canaada Geese - about 500 off south end of swamp in grain fields with Cackling Geese - 25-30 seen, and also Eesser Snow Goose - 1 full adult in with the Canada species. ! A beaut. Mallards - about 500 present Baldpates - a very few Pintails - 350 to 400 males and females present Canvasbacks - 2 males busy diving in shallowwater at south end. Ruddy Ducks - 5 swimming together in deep water near bridges, with the coots. Redtail Hawk flew over Marsh HawkMale low over the swamp Sparrow Hawk hovering over nearby field. Bobwhite ? - heard what we took to be this bird, calling. Pheasants - a series of explosions were set off in a logging area in the hills to the west of the swamp, and immediately afterwards, we heard a pheasant crow. Coots - everywhere - 350-500 present. Wilson Snipe - flushed 2 in north end marshy area. Kingfisher - one female feeding off short ash trees at edge of swamp. Flickers - a few calling from sh trees. Tule Wrens - quite a few present, for they were seen and heard everywhere we went. Pipit - a single one flew over NW Shrike - we saw one a couple of times, and once watched it fly out over a field, climb straight up to about 25 feet above ground, and hover there for 15-20 seconds before dropping to the ground, and then flying to a low perch in a nearby fencerow. Purple Finchs - flock of 6 or 7 flew over Redwing Blackbird - 1 heard Oregon Towhee- immatures in fence row White-crowned Sparrows in fence row Golden-crowned Sparrows in fence row and on the ground, feeding.
