Dec. 6, 1947, Seal Rocks, Lincoln Co. 1030-1130, 12 ovc, cool, calm. Farallon Cormorants Brandt's Cormorants - Phil Dumas Baird's Cormorants - Phil Dumas Brown Pelicans - small group flying north, just offshore - Phil Dumas Surf Birds - a flock of 40-50 of them feeding on wave-washed rocks with Black Turnstones, and a few Aleutian Sandpipers Turnstones flushed lst. as we got within 25' of them. Black Turnstones - about 20-25 in with (Surf Birds and Aleutian Sandpipers - flushed together) Aleutian Sandpipers - saw at least 2 of them in with the flock of Surf Birds and Black Turnstones on the wave-washed rocks, feeding. Markings distinct enough to identify it readily when checked with Peterson's plates. Observed at 25' w/glasses. Western ? Gull immature was feeding on a dead Cormorant which it had dragged from the high tide line, to the low tide area, a distance of over 125 feet Wren Tits - 3 seen in salal along the hiway by Phil Dumas Song Sparrows Dec. 6, 1947, Beaver Creek Marsh, Lincoln Co. 1130-1230 12 ovc, cool, calm. Red-billed Grebe - 2 diff. ones observed Blue Heron in wet field by the creek Mallards - in flooded field about 75 present Green-winged Teal - saw 3 different flocks, one of over 50 birds American Mergansers - a couple on the creek Coots - here and there Stellar Jay heard W. crows in field with the Mallards and teal, and when flushed, they lit in orchard. Winter Wren came within 3 feet of 5 of us along the road Red-breasted Nuthatch - heard Tule Wren - several in the Fucus along the river Golden-crowned Kinglets in coniferous forest Ruby-crowned Kinglets - here and there in brush and woods Sitka Crossbills - 2 flocks flying around, calling loudly Song Sparrows in grass and Fucus Dec. 6th - Ocean Waysides - 1240. (Lincoln Co). Sanderlings - we spotted them in 2 large flocks, from the hiway, and when we got close enough to see them, they were this species, but flew early. Sandpipers - 2 other species, unidentified were in with them. Ravens - 2 flushed perched on snag, near the hiway.
