Heard 2 diff call-notes Typical of those I know for the Bavannah sp. October 28, 1947, Corvallis - 12-mile Swamp, 1315-1335 Ovc/20º RW- SW3-6 Sparrow Hawk - 1 W. Bluebird - 8 Killdeer - 29 Pipits - 1 (150?) Flicker - 1 Brewer Blackbird - 1 same, return, 1525-1545: Sparrow Hawk - 1 Flicker - 2 Pheasant - 3 W. Bluebirds - 10 Killdeer - 1 Brewer Blackbirds - 6 757 October 28, 1947, 12-mile Swamp, Benton Co. 1335-1525 Ovc/20º RW- SW 4-7 Cackling Geese - one flock of 60 in nearby field Mallards - about 100 altogether Pintails - about 40 or 50 in the area Green-winged Teal - about 25-35 seen Shovellers - not over a dozen seen. No full males. Wood Ducks - one flock of 10 flew over Ruddy Duck - saw at least 3 immatures or females near the center area. Vulture - one circled low over us. An immature bird with blackish head. Very late. Marsh Hawk - one female flew in over the swamp from the adjoining field. Pheasants - a few feeding in grain fields. Coots - at least 400, if not many more, scattered over the swamp area today. All busily feeding. They kicked vigorously in order to submerge to feed. Wilson Snipe - flushed several in shallow water in pasture areas here and there. Yellowlegs - just one individual feeding in shallow water over pasture near the road. It called when flushed, but never flew far, before alighting and feeding again. Crow - one flew over Slender-billed Nuthatch - Dave heard one calling Tule Wren - several seen, and others heard scolding and singing in brush areas. Pipits - a few flew over N.W. Shrike - one flushed from fence row where it had been feeding out into field, and it flew into ash trees near the swamp. Not far from where flushed last time. Audubon Warbler - just one in ash area W. Mea cowbird - singing Brewer Blackbirds - just one Redwings - none seen or heard. Purple Finch - several seen in flock. Feeding on ash samaras. One full male, a beaut! House Finch - Dave heard them flying over Willow Goldfinch - in mixed flock with Pine Siskins Pine Siskins in mixed flock with Goldfinches - a few Oregon Towhees - common along the fence rows and flying up into the lower trees. Juncos - in the fence rows and working thru the ash Golden-crowned Sparrows - small flock in fence row and ash grove Song Sparrows here and there in the brush, none singing. 758 November 3, 1947 - OSU Campus - Several flocks of Pine Siskins this a.m. 759
