Breitenbush Lake 5500' June 25, 1940 [illegible] Spotted Sandpipers Snipe Robin Red-breasted nuthatch Junco, Clarke Nutcracker, Dipper, Mountain Bluebird, Chipping Sparrow, Jefferson Park 5500' June 26th, 1940 Spotted Sandpipers Chipping Sparrow, Robin, Mountain Bluebird, Olive Flycatcher, Western Tanagers, Flicker, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Snipe, C[illegible] Pileolated Warbler, Audubon Warbler, and Hummingbird ( got within 2 feet of it. ) + Rock-breasted Junco - that I saw them on front to Jeff. Lake lookout - 7000' + Jefferson Park to Pamelia Lake 5500' to 4300' Weather Overcast - June 28, 1940 Steller Jay, Pileolated Warbler, Robin, Mallard Duck, Dipper. Pamelia Lake 4300' June 29, 1940 Steller Jay, Robin, Wood Duck and brood of small ones, Red-breasted [illegible] nuthatch, black throat gray warbler, yellow-bellied sapsucker, dipper and its young ones. A bird the size of Steller Jay ( slightly smaller ) and about the same color, but it had no top-not. Was in vicinity with Stellars. Varied Thrush, Eagle, Pileated Woodpecker, Winter Wren, Nutcrackrr, Junco, Audubon Warbler, A duck dived on Pamelia from 150 feet into the lake and whistled so loudly that we were all temporarily paralyzed. ??Ha! Hunts Cove to Marion Lake 6800' to 4140' July 1, 1940 Weather windy, sultry, thunderstorms to south. Dipper, snipe, junco, Varied thrush ( lots of them ) Ruffed grouse and brood of small ones, Winter Wren ( heard song ) Black-throat gray warbler, Pil-eated Woodpecker, Steller Jay, Nutcracker, Red-tailed Hawk, song sparrow, russet-back thrush, and Brown Creeper. Jorn Lake July 3 -> Marion to Jorn Lake Winter Wren, Varied Thrush, Robin, Mountain Bluebird, Violet-green Swallow, Western Bluebird, Steller Jay, Female Western Tanager, Flicker, Rough-winged Swallow, Nutcrack r, Eagle, Snipe, Junco, California Woodpecker, Purple Finch, Pine Siskin, Olive Flycatcher, Flicker, Varied Thrush, a Junco with a pretty song, Male Western Tanager, Yellow-Sapsucker, Bush Tit, I saw my first Oregon Jays. I thought they were smaller. One lit on our table while we were eating breakfast. Very tame. There were two of them. July 5, 1940 Scaup duck dove into lake this morning. -Hummingbird--song, and dive fight at Duffy Flats [illegible] July 6, 1940 Summit of Santiam Pass---Hoodoo Ski Lodge.
