Nest of dry Carex stems 7" above water. Both adults stayed within 5 feet while I was at the nest. Killdeer Mourning Dove - a couple of pair Violet-green Swallows Barn Swallows common - nest had 5 eggs today, and more feathers added to lining. Horned Larks - acouple Crow Ravens Tule Wren - nest that had 3 eggs last week now has 7 in it. While I was at the nest, the adult came within a foot of me, but didn't scold till I left. Robin Cassin Vireo Audubon Warbler - 1 male seen in ash area. Pacific Yellow throat Meadowlark Yellow-headed Blackbird.- while we were still at the Jeep before starting out, the pair flew over us from the swamp area, and flew along the fence row, at least to the area of the RR tracks, and then we flushed it farther. Just before we quit I flushed the F from the same area (which they may have chosen for their feeding area in the swamp), and it again flew along the road toward the hiway. Perhaps these two birds have managed to establish a nest that far from the swamp. Redwing Blackbirds common - many nests vacant now, and others just starting. I banded two well-feathered young in one nest that also contained an egg. The nest at 6 feet in an ash had 4 young which I banded. I also found 4 eggs at 5 feet in Spirea, and 3 eggs at 2\frac{1}{2} feet in Spirea. Brewer Blackbirds - saw male carrying food to young, along the hiway. Song Sparrows. May 21, 1947, S. Spur, MacDonald Forest, 3 - 6 p.m. Pigmy Owl - as we started out at 6 p.m., Aller spotted this one perched on a phone line pole by the road. This was on an east slope, and had been in the shade for a long while. It didn't fly, and I got within 20 feet of it, and finally after waving my arms it flew in a long downward dip, and an up-swoop into the to p of a Big-l\aeaf Maple 60 feet away.
