Gairdner Woodpecker - 1 Harris Woodpecker - a pair courting on the side of a Sitka Spruce snag in the woods. Stellar Jay Slender-billed Nuthatch California Creeper Robin Pine Siskin, Willow Goldfinches Red Crossbills Juncos - a pair in the spruce and fir. Dead one on the ground in bog area contained several Blue-bottle Flies (Calaphora) and a very large and pretty Carrion Beetle (Silphidae - Silpha) with red-orange spots on an black background. May 16, 1947, Lost Lake, S. Santiam Pass Hiway, 238 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Mallards - 3 pdir were seen on the lake now, and also 4 at 630 p.m. Barrow's Golden-eyes - 2 pair were seen in the center of the lake, and they swam for a while, as we approached, and then 2 dived, and 2 ran for a take-off. Spotted Sandpiper - just one seen at 630 p.m. Violet-green Swallows over the lake in the evening. Robin - in the evening Ruby-crowned Kinglet flew into the White Pine at 3 p.m. May 16, 1947, Santiam Pass, Hoodoo Lodge - 330 p.m. Raven - 1 Red-breasted Nuthatches - a small flock of them. May 16, 1947, Indian Ford - Metolius R. area. Robin - a few Mountain Bluebirds - just 3 seen in the yellow-pine and juniper.
