Cackling Geese - a flock of 150-175 flew by about a half hour behind the Canadas. 3 Vultures were circling over the ridge-tops in the vicinity today. Blue Grouse - hooting continuously this afternoon - heard 3 different birds. Harris Woodpecker - 1 male working a 5" dead fir snag in the heart of the forest. He was very busy "sounding" the snag and we approached pretty close to him. He pecked everywhere, and when he located a dud spot he fed there, presumably. Golden-crowned Kinglets - a flock working thru the upper story of the fir. Evening Grosbeaks - several flocks of 25-30 birds seen all over the area this p.m. OSC Campus, SE Corner of Ag. Bldg. 1815. I climbed to the robin's nest previously described in the Cascara tree. I banded the four young, 3 of which were getting down covered and had pin-feathers developing. the 4th one was about ½ the size, and did not have pin-feathers yet. The abdomen was the predominant development. Band #s 41-224296, 97, 98, and 99 were placed upon the birds. Kingfisher - one Violet-green Swallows - a few along the road by Mason's Wall Tree Swallows - with the V-g's Stellar Jays in the timber Chestnut-backed Chickadees - in a live-oak and fir belt.
