March 20, Cienega Springs, Arizona continued: Lucy Warbler - a few heard and seen. House Finch - Many pairs. Beautiful and continual singing. Abert Towhee - 10-15 were seen in the brush areas. Sage Sparrows - 1 seen on the ground and in 8' bush. Grayish, with eye-ring. Spot on breast. Very little black on the throat mark. A very shy bird. Fed principally on the ground. Gambell Sparrow - a few in the brush areas. March 20, 1947, Cienega Springs to Parker, Arizona. 1645-1715 MST Vultures - 3 Coots - over 200 on the river above Head Gate Rock Dam Black Phoebe - 1 male Say's Phoebe - 1 Rough-wing Swallows - 25-30 over the river. Phainopeplas - a few pair (total for all day): 67. Audubon Warbler - 1 in irrigated pasture. Nevada Savannah Sparrow - 2 in irrigated pasture. Song Sparrows. March 21, 1947, Parker to Bouse, Arizona 0755-0830; 1200-1230 MST. Vulture - 1 Sparrow Hawk - 1 Gambel Quail - 6 Mourning Dove - 3 Say's Phoebe - 2 Horned Larks - 3 Raven - 2 Mockingbirds - 2 Phainopeplas - 9 Shrikes - 5. March 21, 1947, Bouse to the Summit of Quartzville Road in Plomosa Mtns 11 mi. SW. 0830-0855; 1130-1200 MST. Vulture Costa Hummingbird - 1 Ladder-back Woodpecker - 1 Ash-throated Flycatcher - 2 Mockingbird - 5 Le Conte's Thrasher - (Toxostoma l. lecontei). Nest just being build in a Lycium andersoni at 3' height on the south side, with Palo Verde adjacent on the north. Nest construction about completed on 1/2 of the body of the nest. There is no lining in it yet. Both birds were pale brown and smaller than the Crissal Thrasher. Very, very shy, but even so, the nest was within 5 feet of the State Hiway Route 95! Phainopeplas - 15 - common W. Warbling Vireo - 1st of the year. Very tame in bush beside the road. House Finch - quite a few seen and heard. Brewer's Sparrow - (Spizella b. breweri). one in a wash. Rather a non-descript, grayish plumage to this bird. Not very wild, and we had several satisfactory looks at it.
