W. Grebes - several seen
Pied-billed Grebe - a few seen
D. Crested Cormorants - scattered in small groups over the lake during the day,
and bunched in certain trees at nite. Many "sun-posing" at noontime.
Blue Heron - many seen along the way.
American Egret - 15-20 seen today.
Black-crown Night Heron - 1 flushed near Mojave Rock at 1540 MST
American Bittern - 1 flushed
Canada Geese - 2 found
Mallards - 2 to 4 seen
Baldpates - several M & F
Gadwalls - 20-25 seen altogether.
Shoveller - 1 female
Redheads - 20-25 seen. Fewer males: 1:3, and 3:7, etc.
Lesser Scaup - 7 all day.
Hooded Merganser female
American Merganser male
Red-breasted Merganser - 2 females
Turkey Vulture - many soaring. 1 feeding on dead carp on gravel bank.
Duck Hawk - soaring over rocky cliffs near the lake.
Marsh Hawk - 2 at Topock marsh.
Killdeer, a few pair
Spotted Sandpiper - 3 along the shores.
Greater Yellowlegs - 4 were seen. (2 pair at different times).
Ring-billed Gull - 3 seen
Mourning Doves - 2 seen.
Western Horned Owl (Bufo virginianus pallescens) - 2 flushed from a bluff below
Blankenship bend. May have nesting site on this bluff wall.
White-throated Swift - few soaring around the peaks by the lake.
Costa Hummingbird - cotton from mattress being used in constructing the nest
at the water guage station below Topock.
Belted Kingfisher - 1 perched on 4' snag in the sun.
Red-shafted Flicker
Ladder-back Woodpecker - 1 at Topock
Say's Phoebe - one hanging on cliff side.
Rough-wing Swallows - many seen near the dam.
Tree Swallows - 15-20 at bend above Needles Landing.
Raven - 2 on cliff below Mojave Rock.
Pipits - a few flew over.
Phainopeplas - 4 seen in Arrowweed along bays and coves.
Loggerhead Shrike - 1
Audubon Warblers - few at Topock
Pileolated Warbler - 2 seen above Needles Landing.
House Finch - 2 pair seen.
Nevada Savannah Sparrows -
Lincoln Sparrow - in brush at creek's edge, close to lake. Rocky soil.
Song Sparrows - at Topock.
