March 16, 1947 - Keene-Tehachapi, on U.S. 466, 1130-1150 PST. East of summit of the Tehachapi Mtn.s Juniper and sage come in. Granite with quartz veins Coots in a marsh - Ravens east of the summit. March 16, 1947 - Monolith to Mojave 1155-1300 PST. Coots on marsh along with Florida Gallinules - wading in shallow water not too far from the hiway. March 16, 1947 - Mojave to Barstow, 1330 - 1800 PST. Owl sp. Horned Larks seen occasionally along the way. Ravens here and there. March 17, 1947, Parker, Arizona - 0800-0930 MST Say's Phoebes - calling each other earlier in the a.m. English Sparrows in town. Brown-headed Cowbirds (Dwarf) Molothrus ater obscurus, A few with the Brewer Blackbirds 1830-1900 MST at Parker, Ariz. Say's Phoebe W. Mockingbird - one on wire pole near Monson's. Brewer's Blackbirds - large flocks heading SW. March 17, 1947 - Colorado River, Indian Reservation Agency, SW of Parker, Ariz. 1015-1030 MST 4 Vulture s Sparrow Hawk along the irrigation ditch Coot Rough-winged Swallows 2 Ravens 2 Audubon Warblers in Pepper trees. Lincoln Sparrows - 2 near ranchhouse Gambell's Sparrows - common near the buildings. 2 Oregon Juncos. March 17, 1947, Earp to Vidal Junction, California, 1040-1110MST. Red-tail Hawks - bright white below. Hummingbird, Costa - Phainopepla - M & F (brown-gray). Both crested and with white windows in wings. 4 Loggerhead Shrikes. California. March 17, 1947, Needles Landing Junction to Needles Landing/- 1200-1240 MST. Vultures Loggerhead Shrike 2 Ravens Desert Sparrows - 6 or more. 2 Rock Wrens March 17, 1947, Needles Landing, Havasu Lake, California 1240-1500 MST Double-crested Cormorants Red-breasted Merganser male at edge of small bay. 3 Coots Wilson Snipe Killdeer 15 Least Sandpipers Costa Hummingbird - male Black Phoebé - M glossy, F sooty. Rough-winged Swallows Ravens 2 & 2 Rock Wren heard Plumbeous Gnatcatchers - several Pipits - on flats at edge of lake Loggerhead Shrike 2 Audubon Warblers - have a very pale blue tinge.
