{ "text": "January 16, 1947, Poison Oak Lake, Linn Co. 1 p.m. /\\/ 34°F.\n\nSparrow Hawk - perched in small filbert tree in orchard.\nKilldeer - small flocks seen in fields or flying by.\nFlicker - many seen, and most were feeding on the ground. Fly into tree when flushed, and as usual, go into the dipping act.\nLong-tailed Jay - watched 2 hop around in an oak, chasing each other. One scolded as it flew away, but the other flew away silently.\nOregon Chickadee - many working the oak trees in the area.\nSlender-billed Nuthatch - working an oak.\nRed-breasted Nuthatch - working a D. Fir in a small patch of woods.\nWinter Wren - in the poison oak and rose pasture near the lake. Scolding a lot.\nRobins - plentiful in the country, and more than abundant in town.-- everywhere !\nVaried Thrush - just two s een and heard at the lake.\nRuby-crowned Kinglet - in the scrub ash, and poison oak.\nPipits - a flock of 15 flew over as I left the lake.\nAudubon Warblers - working the ash and oak trees in the area. Calling.\nMeadowlarks - flushed flocks of 20 to 45 concentrated in muddy fields along Towhee.\nthe road.\n\nJanuary 21, 1947, Oak Grove south of Philomath (123° 22'W & 44°30'30\"N), With Dave Marshall, 1230-1415 PST, /\\/ 25°, SW7, 45°F.\n\nKilldeers - calling from the fields on the flats below the hill.\nFlickers - common on the ground, and flushed into the oaks. Several call ntes Lewis Woodpecker - estimated 15-20 in this grove, for they were seen everywhere.\nMany were more or less paired off and giving their \"whistle\" call notes, as they gracefully chased each other from tree to tree. Seemed almost to be courtship flights, being paired off. One Lewis Woodpecker dominated a Varied Thrush perched in the top of an oak, by taking the perch.\nLong-tailed Jays - I'd guess between 8 and 10 of them were in this area.\nNoisy calls were heard almost continually.\nRaven - one flew over high above the oak grove, no call was given. Indirect flight.\nOregon Chickadee - quick a few in the brush.\nSlender-billed Nuthatch - About 3 or 4 is all that seemed to be here.\nSeattle Wren - several singing off and on, from the brush under the oaks.\nRobins - not too many feeding on open ground in the grove.\nVaried Thrush - Probably more than 50 of them, for they seemed to be everywhere, mostly in the oaks, high and low, and on the ground, and in the brush. One was dominated and chased from its perch atop an oak by a Lewis Woodpecker. \"Churps\" heard all the time, and once and a while its \"Rusty\" cali notes.\nWestern Bluebirds - a small flock flew over the grove.\nRuby-crowned Kinglet - a few individuals in the brush.\nAudubon Warblers - More than 50, mostly immatures, feeding through the oaks, and in the underbrush.\nW. Meadowlarks - singing from the low land below the hill grove.\nPurple Finch - one flew over, high, and 2 others were seen in the brush.\nTowhee - quite a few seen in the brush.\nJunco - not very many seen, except feeding on open ground.\nFox Sparrow - in the rose and oak brush.\n\nJan. 21, 1947 Near Independence Schl.
