Avery Park - Towhee - 4 (3m & 1f) feeding in open grass-weed clearing Flicker - 2 ad. and 5 imm. in group working maples - feeding? Ore. Chickadee - 10-15 working maples and underbrush Sl-bill Nuthatch - 2 imm. working in maple. Cal. Creeper- 1 imm. working in maple. Junco - 35-40 feeding on grass and weed seeds on the ground. Sharp-shinned Hawk - one chasing a flock of Brewer Blackbirds. Male Pheasant crowing. Song Sparrow - heard and saw just one. Gravel Pits, Willamette R. bottom. Valley Quail - 11 feeding on bare gravel pile, in the rain. When I finished them, they flew directly across the Willamette. Song Sp - singing from 3 foot perch. Oct. 30, 1946 Peoria Ferry, Willamette R., south of Corvallis. 1-4 p.m. ovc/12 brkn. SW 3 Western Bluebirds seen in small flocks everywhere in the open fields and along the fence rows. Juncos common in the fence rows, weed patches, and brushy areas. Flickers abundant, and all flushed from the ground where they were feeding. Towhee - in fence orws and brushy areas. Vesper Sparrow - dusting itself in gravel along the road, and also feeding on the ground among the vines of a delapidated berry patch. Gairdner Woodpecker female working the bark of an old Willow along the river bottom. Green-backed Goldfinch - just two seen on fences in open prairie. White-crowned Sparrows - several seen along the roads and fence rows. American Pipits, two flocks, of 9 and 23, seen in fields not far from one of the ranch houses. Killdeer common in the fields. Robins common Ruby-crowned Kinglets quite common in the river bottom brushland. Golden-crowned Kinglet - just two seen in fir timber. Cedar Waxwings - in poplars and willows along the river bottom. Valley Quail - a covey of 17 flushed from an open weed patch. Sparrow Hawk - one immature male seen in a small oak tree. Meadowlark - not very many seen. Pied-billed Grebe - a pair of them on one of the sloughs.
