As they approached rapidly, I soon could see they were Turkey Vultures, my first for the year. March 19, 1946 - Corvallis Gravel Pits, Mary's River and Avery Park Saw my first Rufous Hummingbird for the year. Varied Thrush are still around. And in the muddy bottom lands I flushed a small (Little Green) Heron (or-bitterm) Body about 12" long. Wingspread 15" or so. Back and wings blue-grayish in color. Not too dark. April 5, 1946 - Covalllis, A flock of 60-70 Cackling Geese flew over the campus, heading due north. W. Evening Grosbeaks still common in the trees around the campus.
