Mallard Jan. 15, 1944 - 1230 p.m. 835 Whitman St. A small flock of about l5 Golden-crown Kinglets and one Sierra Creeper working a fir tree in the yard. The tnmuk taken care of by the creeper and the branches by the Kinglets. The creeper would go up one side drop down and go up another part of the tree. When the creeper went to another tree the kinglets all followed. I have noticed this same action on other occasions. Jan. 16, 1944 - Walla Walla 4-5 p.m Mallards, Bladpates, M&F Wood Ducks, Flicker Coot, Junco, Sparrow Hawk, Chickadee, Golden-crowned Sparrow, Golden-crowned Kinglet. Jan. 17, 1944 - "alla Walla, Wash. Clear and 30 mph winds from SW. This a.m. at 8 as I was coming home, flight after flight of ducks, mostly mallards, and a few bladpates were winging their way overhead in a SW and westerly direction. They were in small disorganized flocks and also in large V-formations. There must have been 2-3000. About 10-1030 a.m. they all seemed to be coming back, flying in a NE and easterly direction. Perhaps they had all gone to a gravel bed along some river, to get their grit requirements. This same flight was reported to me 2 days previously.
