watched, I saw 4 of them catch 6 sculpins in less than 20 minutes. When they had numbed or killed the captured fish, they would work it around in their bill, so that the head would go down the throat first. One of the grebes had to cough it back up one time, because the fish had too much life as it went down the throat. When swallowing the fish, the neck was worked up and down to the side, to facilitate the downward movement of the fish. Also one grebe chased another one that had just come up with a sculpin. The black and white areas on the head were evenly divided with the blakc above.
