Yellow-headed Blackbirds Brewer Blackbird chasing a ½-grown baby ground Killdeer squirrel. There was 1 adult and 5 young present Bobin Cinnamon Teal Many coots with floating nests of freshly cut rushes, etc. The nests were located in the water between the RR tracks and the hiway. Only a strip about 50' to 100' wide. Just south of Dorris -- Calif (?) Shrike and W. Meadowlark. June 2, 1943 -- Klamath Falls and lake north of K. Falls 1:30 p.m. Clouds and cool. Mallard and young Ruddy ducks (100's of them and males in full plumage) Redhead Baldpate Coot White Pelican Brewer Blackbird Lesser Canada Goose and 5 young Gadwall Red-winged Blackbird Caspian ? Tern Black-billed Magpie (100's) 2 pair Cinnamon Teal Wilson Snipe Pied -billed Grebe Yellow-headed Blackbird Cormorant (what species?) Black-crowned Nightheron Avocet Great Blue or Treganza's Heron Killdeer Wester Grebe and young (also several pairs doing love dance ) Mourning dove. June 28, 1943 -- Camas , Washington Clear and Warm 10 to 11 a.m. Robin's nest sitting on 4 eggs. Rufous Hummingbird did 4 consecutive love dives from a height of about 40 feet. Violet-green Swallows feeding their young in a nest under the eaves at Palmer's. Yellow Warbler Oregon Towhee Crows, one chasing and diving at a Black-throated Gray Warbler W. Red-tailed Hawk Black-headed Grosbeak Oregon Chickadee Brewer's Blackbird N. W. Goldifnch Chipping Sparrow Olive-sided Flycatcher Western Tanager Cedar Waxwing Oregon Junco Little Flycatcher Tree Swallow chasing a Barn Swallow for 5 minutes Purple Finch Cassin's Vireo Long-tailed Chat Song Sparrow Flicker Russet-backed Thrush Townsend's Warbler Lazuli Bunting Puget Sound Sparrow Great Blue Heron came up to him in a rowboat on the lake. He was a bird of the last YearI'S crop. Colors on the head and body were not too well-developed, deep rusty red-brown coming in on the upper legs at the body color. He was not full size yet, either. He handled his large wings, neck, and legs able. When alighting on a log he "backwaters" with his wings and swings his long fully extended legs ahead of him as he comes in for the landing.
