Wilson Snipe Flicker -- giving their breeding calls Sparrow Hawk Oregon Towhee Robin Mallards on lake on Lady Island Crow Baldpates -- Large rafts of them on Lady Island Varied Thrush Pintails -- Some of these on the same lake. Screech Owl -- Three of them around Palmer's house calling to each other. Call was rich and mellow this time. (11 p.m.) Violet-green Swallow -- Heard the familiar twittering of the swallow and looked and there it was. First I have seen this year and we haven't seen them in the Willamette Valley as yet. February 28, 1943 Camas Washington -- Lacamas Lake and Prune Hill. Clear and warm, but slightly hazy in the distance. Chipping Sparrow saw two or three of these today. Oregon Junco Varied Thrush Flicker Song Sparrow Robin Oregon Towhee American Merganser -- Male and female on Lower Lacamas Lake. Male white showed brilliantly in contrast to dark head and red bill. Female had reddish head and neck. California Creeper Pine Siskin -- One flock of about 40 perched in an apple tree near the road. Golden-Eagle -- While on the summit of Prune Hill a very large golden Eagle flew over and soared overhead for sometime. Western Bluebird -- Many small flocks of them in brilliant plumage on the top of Prune Hill. Oregon Chickadee -- Coast Jay Violet-green Swallow -- Saw four of them in one place on the summit of Prune Hill perched and flying to and from some light wires there. They would sometimes take off and chase each other giving their familiar twittering squeaking noises while so doing. When an insect would fly by, the swallow would leave the wire perch long enough to catch it. March 1, 1943 -- Corvallis, Campus. Internet Workers Saw two of these in the fir trees in front of the Museum Building west of it. I was attracted to them by hearing their call from near the Ag. Building.
