December 8, 1942 Corvallis, Ag. Building: In Dr. Gordon's office and observed many Varied Thrush, lots of Robins and two or three of these had irregular white patches on various parts of their bodies. One had white on the crown, another had white at the bend of the left wing. Another had a large white area on the tail. They didn't seem to be solitary like some of the albino robins which I have observed. Also we noticed a smaller bird energetically driving the robins and varied thrush away from it. Upon looking at it through the field glasses we found it to be an Alaska Warbler/Hermit Thrush. Why it should want to drive the other birds away, I wouldn't know. December 21, 1942 Woodburn Large flights of crows going south at 9:30 this a.m. Also saw Robin, Varied Thrush, Sitka Kinglet, W.E. Grosbeak flocks and Slender-billed Nuthatch. Clear & Cold 5:30 p.m. One small solitary bird that was gray above, whitish below, and had longitudinal white lines on wings when in flight. When it lit it hopped up & down. Had black bill & feet. Some shorebird ??? January 16, 1943 Oak Creek, 1 mile west of Corvallis 1:30 to 4p.m. High wind and snowing heavily.
