Then took off after I snapped a twig accidentally. March 19, 1942 started. Walnut talked with Purple Finch perched in prune tree that is just having its buds breaking out. This find was feeding on these young leaf buds. It would work the picked bud around in its bill & discard the hornier bud scales, tip up its head & swallow the tender young leaves. March 20, 1942 Corvallis Dr. Jordan I saw the 1st pair of Chipping Sparrows of the season. They were feeding under a cherry limb on the ground.
