Eugene--June 23, 1941--Twilight
For the first time I noticed the very high and nearly inaudible "squeeks"
of the bat as it flies about and mostly when chasing another bat.
Ashland--June 25, 1941 5.30 to 8 A.M. Weather was misty and cool.
Through Lithia Park and farther up the hill.

Robin
Western Tanager--Coaxed it with imitations within five feet of my hand.
Chipping Sparrow--Very common in many locations
Hummingbird, Rufous--
Green-backed Goldfinch--Also coaxed it closer by calling back to it.
Little Flycatcher--Perched on the dead tip of a small maple tree.
Long-tailed Jay--Lots of the them in the woods and I found many in an old cherry
orchard on top of the hill. They were feeding on the cherries.
Valley Quail--lots of them in the brush patches--the lookouts were most conspicuous.
Thurber's Junco--In the trees and on the lawns in town.
San Joaquin Wren--I heard one sing and I can't tell any difference from the Seattle Wren
Western House Wren-
English Sparrow--
Lazuli Bunting--I watched one feeding in the wheat field by the road. He would quit
eating frequently and would burst forth with his song.
Willow Goldfinch--Many of them around the house near the edge of town.
Oregon Brown Towhee--Saw four of them in the pasture and in the apple trees.
Western Meadowlark--Perched on telephone pole near the railroad
California Woodpecker--In the heart of Ashland on a telephone pole. In shaggy condition.
Modoc Song Sparrow--Several of them in Ashland
Osprey--Seen on limb over Klamath River north of Yreka in the afternoon.
