Crow 9. Red-breasted Nuthatch 10. Red-tail Hawk 11. Varied Thrush 12. Mountain Quail Also saw about 100-150 Band-tailed Pigeons on edge of timberline on M.P. Saw Puget Sound Sparrows of 3 or 4 Townsend Solitaires There were lots of Hummingbirds on the mountains in this area This makes 58 different birds seen on 4/20/41 Pretty big list, eh what! 4/21/41 6 - 6:15 PM Meadowlark Robin Bird Wits V. Z. Swallows Puget Sound Sparrows English Sparrow Chickadee Purple Finch Willow Goldfinch Pine Siskin Audubon Warbler Sparrow Hawk Lutescent Warbler 1 Townsend Solitaires 4 or 5 of them Very tame. They hung around the lower limbs of the trees (Ash) Would drop to the ground and immediately fly up again. The white ring around the eye, the white wing bars, and the white edges on the tail were prominent. Bill was rather wide. 2. Lutescent warbler seen in hawthorne tree across street from here. 3. Western Evening Grosbeaks were seen in the elm trees on the campus. 4. Saw many, many Puget Song Sparrows today. 5. Saw two single Mourning Doves, along the road. 6. Cassin Vireos were the first I had seen and heard this year. 7. Saw just one pair of Golden-crown Sparrows along the road. 8. This was the first Long-tail Chat I have ever seen. Didn't get too good look at him, but I would know him and his call next time. 9. First live, wild Wood Ducks I have seen, and that was about 8 of them today. 10. Saw nearly 25 Band-tailed Pigeons in the woods today. 11. Saw this Great Blue Heron in the top of a fir tree. It soon flew. April 18, 1941 Weather perfect.
