December 22, 1940 Pudding River, Weather Warm, Clear. The river is way up to what it was about one month ago. There are not many birds but I did see the usual ones. Gardiner Woodpecker Song Sparrow Junco Seattle Wren Meadowlark Towhee White-breast Nuthatch Varied Thrush Flicker Oregon Chickadee Ruby-crowned Kinglet Sparrow Hawk Stellar Jay Golden-crown Kinglet December 24, 1940 8 A.M. This morning as I was sitting down eating breakfast I looked out the window to the food table I had made and I saw a stranger. A bird chickadee-size (about) light buff underneath striped with brown. There was a bright yellow patch under the chin, rather large. Also two more bright yellow patches on the chest. Is it an Audubon Warbler in winter plumage. Dec. 28, 1940 Lots of Crows on Mt. Hood above Timberline Also Oregon Jays. Weather was clear & perfectly warm
