Erickson 1934 Tule Tank. 15 Saw a Cottontail, several Myiothera cinerascens, Gambel Sparrows; heard Verdin, Linnet, Gratecatchers and Linnets. On 19th heard same trilled song as at Tingua Altas for 10 min. or less about 3:00 in the afternoon; came from low bushes in wash at mouth of canyon or possibly rocky slope 75 ft beyond; failed to locate singer at this time and song not heard again. Left Tule Tank shortly after noon going by road just west of Buck Mountain and east of Melton hills to Melton. Jan. 22. Moved from Melton to Sela Bend in afternoon. Only birds seen along highway were two thrives at widely separated intervals. Calf. Linnet several times and meadowlarks in alfalfa fields west of Sela Bend. Jan. 23. Went from Sela Bend to Quitobaquito, via Ajo and Bates Well. At Ajo, English Sparrows numerous around buildings with tile roofs. At Bates Well Saw O'rainopepla, three Harris Hawks, Verdin, Western (?) Gratecatcher, Western Robin; and Woodpecker, probably a Sela. Made camp about 1 mi. east of Quitobaquito = home of an Indian named Jose Juan, and about 7 mi. East of Monument 172 on Mexican boundary. Watched for birds from 4:30 till dusk, Linnet and O'rainopepla only ones seen. Bat heard in evening above pan. Lent; coyote calls frequent during night.
