I found more fresh diggings in two spots further along the ditch between road + orchard & made 2 more sets. In all three of these diggings, freshly cut vegetation was found in the burrow mouth. The third of yesterday's sets (12.7 mi. S Sacramento) was plugged up & the trap buried. The second set, at the culvert just north of the crossroad (13.3 mi. S Sacramento) caught an immature gopher. The subsoil here was red clay. Yesterday's first set, in the pasture SW the cross road, was undisturbed, & I picked up the trap. Sprinkle caught one gopher here. We returned to Sacramento; looked at my 3 by the orchard on the way but the sets were undisturbed. We then ran the traps NE the American river; I caught a sub-adult & in each of my two sets. I made another set here, in the horse-pasture - we drove on 0.2 mi. further; in the grass alongside an irrigated garden I put out three traps. &/10 mi. N American river we turned west on a short side road. & in a field of alfalfa + wild oats, where diggings were quite scarce I put out another trap. After lunch we ran the traps S of Sacramento again. Not disturbed- left them there. Returned to Sacramento, N of American river - no gophers at old race-track; took up traps.
