We cannot use roof of knitter or original building for observations. Freezer would be welcomed - 1/2 size normal freezer, could be placed in pump house. Personnel - Hayes prefers two, 14th District just refused Union quarters here due to this limitation (prob. on Hayes recommendation) Banded 225 Bootes 8-9:30 p.m. 2100 ±100 boobies present 10 p.m. Tropic bird still on egg. Dave found what appeared to be a fresh Boot egg, perhaps moldy. Jan 31 Three R.T. Tropicbirds over Sand. Gray-back Tern or rouge light was absent 6 p.m., egg not apparent. Checked Boot egg in NM, found it broken. Made another attempt to capture gull on Johnston at night. Spotted it along east shore but it scam away very rapidly. Waited around and some fishermen showed up with lights and fees. Bird did not
