Kanani July 31 * Arrived on Hanalei last night 20:30 via Naui Airlines, Paul Woodward, Carmen Kepner. I left the Hale Nalani Motel about 7 A.M. and drove west + then north on 50 to Hanapepe, Wainee and Kekaha, past acres of sugar cane, and then slip continued up to the Kokee region along the west side of Waimea Canyon. After hiking in Kalalau Lookout (4000'), which offers a spectacular view of the Kalalau Valley in the coastal Na Pali Cliffs, as it momentarily emerges from the fog-like clouds and then melts away again, we drove as far as possible on the Moliki Road and then began hiking over the ridges.
