K. Newman 1964 Sand-Johnston April 5 - only 14 eggs remaining, and April 13 - about 25-30 birds. April 14 - The AF Captain from the satellite camera reported that a few fairy terns were possibly nesting inside the N.N. warehouse adjacent to the exchange. We checked on this and found that one egg had indeed been laid on one of the high rafters. It had been removed by one of the men and placed in a "nest" outside; we collected it, as it was bad. The man we talked to said that nesting activity began about two months ago in this area. The Captain stated that the terns spend the night and early morning in bushes behind the Tennis courts, then move to bushes above the hospital in the afternoon and down next to the N.N. warehouse in late afternoon. April 16 - We have noted Common Nettles stealing food from Sooties several times recently. They fly back forth over an area of the colony, low, and grab food being fed to a chick, oftentimes grabbing the Sooty's bill, sometimes even lifting the bird up just as
