Mar 24 Perhaps the water lost from the
mouth might be from a bird which
has just come from getting a drink.
Noted several frigate[s] sitting
on the 1st set of inner guy wires
right above the transmitter, beside
the antenna. We have never seen
them sitting there before. Many had
their wings open in the "sunbathing"
posture. Many more than usual were
on the other wires too - also true of
Red-foots. Probably due to heat.
Observed several Sooties picking
up stones and dropping them in the
vicinity of the nest while incubating.
Mar 25 Another very hot, calm day. The
frigate[s] were again sitting on the low
guy wire right by the antenna, in
greater numbers today - 100-200 wheeling
above the islands on the south side all
day. Few sitting in the colony - only
about 60 in the morning.
Binion suggests that the Sooties
may move to shade the egg rather
than to face into the wind, at least
when the wind is below a certain level.
Today, with no wind, they did seem
to be doing this.
