Sand - Johnston
Mar 21 - Scoties. One or two greyharks were
seen and an occasional Common
Waddy. All the activity occurred
during the morning, when we were
on the NW side of the reef. Very
few, if any, birds were seen in
the afternoon on the other side - time
or location or both?
Mar 22 - Binnin returned from the locwned
trip and arrived here about 1100.
Cameron Loersburg (Y.N.A., U.S.N.) arrived
shortly after this. He will escort
300 Scoty Terns back.
Mar 23 - Collected 16 Scoties for release
at sea from the U.S.C.G. Planetree
tomorrow. Nos. 1-8 numbered in red,
will be released 0800. Nos. 9-16 in
blue will be let loose at 1500. All
from eggs by left of transmitter.
Collected 300 Scoties for Loersburg
from in front of the dock and on the
road to the dump. Perhaps 1/3 of
these were not on eggs, though they may
have had mates which were.
Mar 24 - No sign of released Scoties. Binnin
and I observed some interesting things
in the Scoties during the afternoon.
Several birds left their eggs for short
periods (less than a minute to 2-3 minutes),
