Reverman 1964 Sand-Distraction Feb 16 intruded by two lotharians. Feb 12 Possessed by some demon, I arose at 6 and went up to the bird end. Estimated 15,000 Soothes roosting, < 5000 in air; for how the number roosting could possibly be 1948 by 5-10,000. By 7^2 all but ~100 nearest the transmitter had left the road. A heavy shower from 6^3 - 7^2 may have put up many birds: The last 50 left the road 7^26; those on the NW side of the building left about the same time. These were the earliest departures. In the large area on the SE side of the building a large group left from alongside it 7^4. Another group went up 7^6 from the rear of the forward mass. Gradual departures from the edges to the center of the flock continued. These birds did not fly out immediately but went N or NW over the island, then wheeled back and repeated this. Many of them landed again. 6007 birds were still on the NE slope only 9^2, and many in the air over them. The somewhat disarrayed Brown Boobies were nipping at many of the more careless ones.
