H. Anerman 1964 Makin Atoll Gilbert Islands compartment of the raft settled simply on the water. Since we and the gear were mostly in the rear we were quite pleased that the rear compartment held up. Binnen & Roger, I grabbed the bowline and used it to keep the front end out of the water for the last quarter mile. It's really a shame it was night when we reached the ship - another prattfall scene not recorded for posterity. All The few crew members aboard could not restrain their tears for laughing so hard at the sight of our "inflated wading cool", as it was termed. We ate, catalogued birds and watched movies. Phil took a raft in to the festivities and George & Mary returned with their birds, including a godwit. People straggled back to the ship until after midnight. Blegy viewed "Dementia 13", a terrible, darish psychological melodrama about an axe-murderer in a family in which a young girl had drowned 6 years before, and "Ball the Broom", a Bob Hope - Arnta Ehberg stale tale.
