Quinn R. Crossing, 4100 ft., Humboldt Co., Nev. Engler 1936 July 25 Packed up & left the River Crossing for Sulphur about 9:00 A.M. The river bed was dry except for a few muddy pools of water. Many "Jacks" were seen near the river bed the night before. The ranchers said that they were having quite a time this year with the rabbits in their gardens. They also reported, what seemed to be Microtus mordanx in field of hay they were working. As we drove over a very rough & apparently little used road little animal life was seen after we passed De Longs Ranch. Shrikes & Ravens were seen for the first part of the trip. About 20 mi. N from Sulphur the country became very barren save for a few scattered Atriplex bushes, about 5 mi. N of Sulphur Jack's were seen & Badger workings were in evidence. A few sandy areas were reached & large burrows were seen. They seemed to be D. deserti burrows. Reached Sulphur about 2:00 P.M. & established Headquarters in 3 rooms of an old hotel.
