Engler 1936 \n1/2 mi. N Vya, 6000 ft., Washoe Co Nev. \nJuly 23 (cont) work. Western Bluebirds had a nest in the attic + a pair of Barn Swallows were nesting on the back pack under the rafters. This porch was used as a kitchen but the birds continued to care for their young throughout our stay. West of camp, across the road, was a steep hill at the top of which was a ledge of volcanic rock set up on a sandstone base. Sand stone monuments were found about halfway up the hill. The slope was covered with Artemisia + Balsamorrhiza. The surrounding country was much the same in appearance, sloping away from the hills down to a lake which could be seen toward the north. Low Artemesia bushes covered most of the country. To the S, along the road could be seen a low grass. The weather stays warm + clear up until the 21st. When it clouded up + rained a little at camp. A spring was located about 20 yds from the cabin. Around this spring were caught some specimens of Microtus mordax.
