Rock Cr., 5000 ft., Granite Mt., Washoe Co, Nev. Engler 1936 21. July 14 flew up & took refuge in a small quirt of aspens. At the S. end of this meadow is a rock slide between two hills & three which water runs when flowing. Climbing this slide an occasional chipmunks could be seen as it darted for shelter among the rocks. At the top of this slide 7000' another meadow was reached. Large quirts of Aspen were [illegible] the hillsides. Humming birds, Flicker, Hairy woodpeckers, Green tails, towhees, kingbirds & an Oriole was seen as I walked through the grove. A wood- pecker & a flicker were taken. Many sheep tracks could be seen around a water hole in the center of the green meadow. The water was full of small tadpoles. The altitude here was 7000 ft. At the south end of the meadow & within, 200 feet of each other was found an antler of a mule deer & one from a white tail deer. Returning towards camp, quail could be heard often in the distance & one adult was seen followed by some chicks.
